Elizabeth BARWICK 1822 to 1900 married to Samuel Hurst

Elizabeth Barwick was born to Charlotte and John Barwick on December 8, 1822 and died on May 7, 1900 at Kurrajong. Elizabeth is buried at St Stephen's Anglican Church in Kurrajong. She married Samuel Hurst on May 11, 1837.


Elizabeth and Samuel had twelve children.

2. Mary 1839 to 1926 (married to Henry Peck in 1862 at Richmond)

3. Samuel 1841 to 1896 (married to Diana Wilson, descendant of Elizabeth and Job Wilson, in 1872 at North Richmond)

4. Charlotte 1843 to 1922 (married to Thomas Dean in 1865)

5. Ann 1845 to 1932 ? (married to James Mason in 1864) & (married to Henry Anderson in 1896)

6. Elizabeth 1847 to 1940 (married to John Dean in 1868)

7. Louisa 1849 to 1932 (married to James Douglass in 1871 at North Richmond)

8. Jane 1851 to 1890 single

9. Rachel Frances 1855 to 1947 (married to James Bonus in 1877 at Kurrajong)

10. Rebecca Sophia 1857 to 1935 (married to Edward Hobbs in 1878 at Kurrajong)

11. Joseph 1861 to 1944 (married to Alice Overton in 1884, descendant of Mary and George Turner)

12. Daughter born and died in infancy.

Phoebe Jane Wilson 1849 to 1926 married to Thomas Hennessey & George Patterson

Phoebe Jane Wilson (1849 to 1926) was the second child and first daughter of Edward Wilson and Susannah Riley. She was born in Portland Head, NSW on the Hawkesbury River. She died in Lithgow, NSW.

She married Thomas Hennessey in 1867 at Enfield NSW.  It is not known when Thomas died. Phoebe then married George Fairweather Patterson at Orange in 1899.

Phoebe had eleven children.

1. Alvina May 1868 -1901 married Cornelius Collins. They had 7 children.

2. Alice Jane 1870 - 1956 married John Wisbey Wilson. He was the son of Thomas Wilson and Hannah Douglass.

3. Ada 1872 - 1952 married Andrew Gardiner. They had two children.

4. Agnes 1874 - 1916 married George McManus and then Jack McKivatt. She had at least one child with George McManus.

5. Ellen 1876 - 1910 married George Sterling. They had four children.

6. Susannah 1878 - 1955 married Samuel Watson. They had seven children.

7. Thomas 1880 - 1961 married Alice (Alfena) Osborne. He had three children.

8. Selina Grace 1883 - 1931 married Joseph Hepple in 1907 and then James Roberts. Had two Hepple children and at least one Roberts child.

9. D'Arcy Harold 1886 -1950 married Emily Hamerton. They had two children.

10. Percival Reginald 1886 - 1959 married Ethel Hamerton. They had three children.

11. Stella Ann 1889 - 1917 married Archibald Tinnock. They had at least one child.

Diana Wilson 1851 to 1927 married to Samuel Hurst and John Shepherd

The second daughter of Edward Wilson and Susannah Riley was Diana. Diana Wilson was born at Kurrajong in 1851 and died there in 1927. In 1872 Diana married Samuel Hurst. After Sam's death in 1896, Diana married John Shepherd in 1899.

Samuel was the son of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst and was born in Kurrajong in 1841. He and Diana were second cousins. Sam died in October 1896. There is a lovely newspaper memorial from Diana for Sam.

2. Ellen 1875 - 1939 married John Coady and had at least two children.

3. May Edith 1877 - 1953 married Theodore James Giddins. Theodore was then son of Harriet Barwick and William Giddins.

4. Samuel Edward 1879 -1955. Never married.

5. James 1881- 1955 married Mildren Glidden. They had at least three children.

6. William Kenneth 1884 - 1969 married Celia Allister. They had three children.

7. Priscilla 1886 - 1954 married Herbert Stanford. They had five children.

8. Ruby Alice 1888 - 1950 married John Riley in 1911. They had seven children. Read Ruby's death notice here.

9. Horace Gordon 1891 - 1976 married Nellie Richards. They had two children.

10. Arthur Leslie 1892 - 1952 married Mabel Hastings. No record of children.

John Hurst 1838 to 1920 married Susan Sunderland

John Hurst was the first child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst.  He was born in Kurrajong in 1838 and died in Gulargambone in 1920. In 1862 John married Susan Sunderland. 

They had thirteen children.

1. Ambrosine 1861 - 1947. Married Joseph Carter and George Campbell. With Joseph Carter she had three children.

2. Elizabeth 1863 -? Married James Masters. They had two children.

3. Charlotte 1865-? Married Arthur McCauley. They had two children.

4. Samuel 1868 - ?

5. John 1870 -1914. Married Caroline Hunt. They had eight children.

6. William 1872 -1872. 

7. Joseph 1873 -?. Married Jessie Stubs. They had six children.

8. George 1876 - ?  Married Jane Baugh. They had two children. 

9. Hannah 1878 -?. Married George Martin and John Whitley. One child with George Martin and four with John Whitley.

10. Mary 1880 -? Married Thomas Mahon. They had three children.

11. Susan Ann 1883 -1976. Married Walter Bolton. They had eleven children.

Samuel Hurst 1841 to 1896 married Diana Wilson

Samuel Hurst was the third child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. He was born in Kurrajong in 1841 and died there in 1896. In 1872 Samuel married Diana Wilson. Diana was the daughter of Edward Wilson and Susannah Riley. Samuel was a very popular figure in Kurrajong. He and Diana had ten children. After Sam's death Diana married John Shepherd. Rebecca Sophia Hurst 1857 to 1935 married Edward Hobbs

Rebecca Sophia Hurst was the tenth child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. She was born in Kurrajong in 1857 and died in Maraylya in 1935. Rebecca married Edward Hobbs in 1878. They had seven children.

1. Henry Edward 1879 - 1959. Married Lucy Hobbs. They had eight children.

2. Charles Joseph 1881 - 1976. Married Linda Walker. They had five children.

3. George Roland 1883 - 1963. Did not marry.

4. Maude Elizabeth 1885 - 1892. Drowned.

5. Louisa 1887 -1965. Married Thomas Harpur.

6. Rachel 1889 -1975. Married John Robbins. They had two children.

7. Reginald 1891 - 1960. Married Hilda Gardiner. They had two children.
