Edward WILSON 1816 to 1902 married to Susannah Riley

The second surviving son of Elizabeth and Job Wilson was Edward. Their first son Edward died as a baby.

Born on December 15, 1816, at Castlereagh NSW, Edward died on May 30 in 1902 at Kurrajong. Edward married twice, first to Anne Sherwood who died in 1839 (no issue) and secondly to Susannah Riley (daughter of John and Catherine Riley) on April 11 in 1847.

Edward is buried at St James Church in Kurrajong Heights. Edward was an active member of the community, and you can read a newspaper article about him using this link.

Thomas Wilson 1835 to 1901 married to Hannah Douglass

Thomas Wilson was born to Elizabeth and Job Wilson at Kurrajong on July 10, 1835. He married Hannah Douglass on December 17,1857 at Richmond. 

Thomas died in January 1901 and is buried at St Stephens Church Kurrajong. His daughters placed a memorial for him in the 1901 Windsor and Richmond Gazette (here). Probate for his estate is advertised here.

Hannah died in Kurrajong on December 8, 1928 (her newspaper obituary can be read here.

Thomas and Hannah had five children.

Elizabeth BARWICK 1822 to 1900 married to Samuel Hurst

Elizabeth Barwick was born to Charlotte and John Barwick on December 8, 1822 and died on May 7, 1900 at Kurrajong. Elizabeth is buried at St Stephen's Anglican Church in Kurrajong. She married Samuel Hurst on May 11, 1837.


Elizabeth and Samuel had twelve children.

Diana Wilson 1851 to 1927 married to Samuel Hurst and John Shepherd

The second daughter of Edward Wilson and Susannah Riley was Diana. Diana Wilson was born at Kurrajong in 1851 and died there in 1927. In 1872 Diana married Samuel Hurst. After Sam's death in 1896, Diana married John Shepherd in 1899.

Samuel was the son of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst and was born in Kurrajong in 1841. He and Diana were second cousins. Sam died in October 1896. There is a lovely newspaper memorial from Diana for Sam.

3. May Edith 1877 - 1953 married Theodore James Giddins. Theodore was then son of Harriet Barwick and William Giddins.

4. Samuel Edward 1879 -1955. Never married.

5. James 1881- 1955 married Mildren Glidden. They had at least three children.

6. William Kenneth 1884 - 1969 married Celia Allister. They had three children.

7. Priscilla 1886 - 1954 married Herbert Stanford. They had five children.

9. Horace Gordon 1891 - 1976 married Nellie Richards. They had two children.

10. Arthur Leslie 1892 - 1952 married Mabel Hastings. No record of children.

John WILSON JNR 1854 to 1899 married Margaret Hawkins and Ellen Hawkins

John Wilson Jnr was the first child of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick. He was born in Kurrajong in 1854 and died there from Typhoid in 1899. John was married twice, first to Margaret Jane Hawkins in 1878. Margaret died in 1882. 

John then married Margaret's sister, Ellen Matilda Hawkins in 1885. As John and Margaret already had two small daughters, Ellen took on the role of both aunt and stepmother. You can read John's obituary in this news article.

John and Margaret had two children.

1. Priscilla May (1880 - 1896). Died as a teenager.

2. Amelia Ann Christina (1882 - 1942). Known locally as Sis Packer. Amelia married Henry Packer at Kurrajong in 1900.

Amelia and Henry had 12 children.

2. Reginald Henry Lawrence (1902 - 1934) married Lily Hibbert.

3. Alphonsus Patrick (1904 - 1962) married Lillian Wade.

Ellen Matilda Hawkins 1865 - 1925 married John Wilson and George Wilson

Ellen Matilda Hawkins was the fifth child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. She was born at Kurrajong in 1865 and died in 1925 at her home in Westmead. She is buried in Rookwood Cemetery as Helen Wilson.  

Ellen was married twice. She married John Wilson (1854 -1899) in 1885.

John had previously been married to her older sister Margaret. When Margaret died young, Ellen married John and reared his and Margaret's two daughters (Priscilla and Amelia) as her own. With John, Elsie had 8 children.

1. Elsie Jane (1885 - ?) married Cyrus Wilson in 1905.

4. Elwin Alfred (1890 - 1966) married Jessie Pearce in 1920. In this newspaper article Elwin had a bit of trouble with his cousin Thomas Wilson.

Following John's death in 1899 from Typhoid, Ellen married George Henry Wilson (1871 - 1959). She had two children from this marriage. 

1. Daisy Miriam 1901 - 1976 married George Quartermain in 1923. Charles died in 1947. 

2. Brinsley Bruce Septimus 1903 - 1972 married Beryl Wilson (descendant of Edward Wilson and Emily Jane Hurst) in 1934 at Richmond.

Edward Thomas Wilson was the fourth child of Thomas Wilson and Hannah Douglass. He was born in Kurrajong in 1865 and died there in 1932. He married Emily Jane Hurst, the daughter of Joseph Hurst and Alice Overton.

Edward and Emily had eight children.

1. Garnett Aubrey 1898 - 1964 married Dorothy May Douglass. They had six children.

2. Edward Joseph 1914 - 1915.

3. Beryl Ann 1916 - ? married Brinsley Bruce Wilson.

John Hurst 1838 to 1920 married Susan Sunderland

John Hurst was the first child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst.  He was born in Kurrajong in 1838 and died in Gulargambone in 1920. In 1862 John married Susan Sunderland. 

They had thirteen children.

1. Ambrosine 1861 - 1947. Married Joseph Carter and George Campbell. With Joseph Carter she had three children.

2. Elizabeth 1863 -? Married James Masters. They had two children.

3. Charlotte 1865-? Married Arthur McCauley. They had two children.

5. John 1870 -1914. Married Caroline Hunt. They had eight children.

6. William 1872 -1872.

Mary Hurst 1839 to 1916 married Henry Peck

Mary Hurst was the second child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst. She was born in Kurrajong in 1839 and died there in 1926. In 1862 Mary married Henry Peck. 

They had thirteen children.

1. Mary Ann 1863 - 1956. Married Edward Smith. They had seven children.

2. Henry Edward Peck 1864 -1955. Married Julia Leidich. They had five children.

3. Arthur 1866 - 1951. Married Harriet May Wilson and Sarah Duggan. He had one child with Harriet and three with Sarah.

4. George William 1867 - 1945. Married Winifred Ballard and Mary Overton. He had four children with Winifred (died 1901) and one with Mary. 

5. Robert John 1869 -1951. Married Emily Edith Blundell. They had five children. Emily died not long after giving birth to her youngest child, Emily Edith Matilda in 1908. The family lived on Comleroy Road Kurrajong and their slab hut still stands. 

6. Richard Ernest 1871 -1938. Married Alice Elizabeth Poole (died 1901) and Elizabeth Myers. With Alice Richard had two children. With Elizabeth he had a further two children.

7. Emily Jane 1872 - 1960. Married Alfred Lord. They eight children. They owned the property called Loxley at Kurrajong North.

8. Amy Matilda 1874 -1960. Married George Howson and Henry Brown. 

9. Alice May 1875 -1964. Married George Stewart and Joshua Butt. With George Alice had four children. 

10. Clara Mabel 1877 -1955. Married Albert Poole. They had six children.

11. Hannah Elizabeth 1879 - 1936. Married George Blundell. They had two children.

12. Evelyn Annie 1881 -1966. Married Alfred Slingsby. They had one son.

13. Leslie Charles 1884 - 1962. Married Constance Mortley. They had two children.

Samuel Hurst 1841 to 1896 married Diana Wilson

Samuel Hurst was the third child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. He was born in Kurrajong in 1841 and died there in 1896. In 1872 Samuel married Diana Wilson. Diana was the daughter of Edward Wilson and Susannah Riley. Samuel was a very popular figure in Kurrajong. He and Diana had ten children. After Sam's death Diana married John Shepherd. Ann Hurst was the fifth child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. Ann was born in Kurrajong in 1845. She married twice. First to James Mason to whom she had twelve children. She then married Henry Anderson who died a week before her in September 1929.

3. Ann 1869 - 1951 Married Hector McDonald.

Louisa Hurst was the seventh child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. Louisa was born in 1849 in Kurrajong. She married James Douglass in 1871 in North Richmond and died there in 1932. Louisa and James had thirteen children. They lived at Wheeny Creek, Redbank Creek and Netley Hill before living at ''Carlhurst'' in Crooked Lane North Richmond.

2. James 1874 -1952. Married Ethel Wilson. They had ten children.

3. Burtrus 1875 - 1987. Married John Parker and Thomas Merrick.

Jane Hurst 1851 to 1890

Jane Hurst was the eighth child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. Jane was born in Kurrajong in 1851 and died, aged 38 at her sister's house in Richmond in 1890. She did not marry.

Rebecca Sophia Hurst 1857 to 1935 married Edward Hobbs

Rebecca Sophia Hurst was the tenth child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. She was born in Kurrajong in 1857 and died in Maraylya in 1935. Rebecca married Edward Hobbs in 1878. They had seven children.

1. Henry Edward 1879 - 1959. Married Lucy Hobbs. They had eight children.

2. Charles Joseph 1881 - 1976. Married Linda Walker. They had five children.

3. George Roland 1883 - 1963. Did not marry.

4. Maude Elizabeth 1885 - 1892. Drowned.

5. Louisa 1887 -1965. Married Thomas Harpur.

6. Rachel 1889 -1975. Married John Robbins. They had two children.

Rachel Hurst was the ninth child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. Born in Kurrajong in 1855, Rachel married James Bonus in 1877. Rachel died in 1947 at Richmond. She and James had nine children.

1. Albert Reginald 1878 - 1964. Married Magdalena Taylor.

2. Samuel 1880 - 1963. Married Margaret Laurence. They had four children.

3. Mary Elizabeth 1881 -1923. Married Walter Taylor. They had one child.

Joseph Hurst was the eleventh child of Elizabeth Barwick and Samuel Hurst Senior. He was born in Kurrajong in 1861 and died there in 1944. Joseph married Alice Jean Overton in 1884. They lived in Mill Road Kurrajong and had ten children.

1. Eva 1884 - 1973. Married Alfred Bottles. They had four children.

2. Archie John 1886 - 1965. Married Ada Davis. They had five children.

3. Hannah Minnie 1888 - 1946. Married Oswald London. They had three children.
