Susan Wilson 1833 to 1888 married to Joseph Hawkins

Susan Wilson, was born to Elizabeth and Job Wilson on May 5, 1833 at Kurrajong. She married her next door neighbour, Joseph Hawkins on March 25, 1857 at Richmond. 

Joseph's parents were David Hawkins and Jane Cowling, who owned the adjacent farm Timberinga. Joseph was born in Kurrajong on December 25, 1829 and died on March 19, 1902 also at Kurrajong. 

Susan and Joseph lived on part of Timberinga. Joe was a timbercutter as were most of the Wilson and Hawkins family members. Susan died of cirrhosis of the liver at age 54 in 1888. She is buried near her Wilson family members. 

Joseph doesn't have a headstone so I assume he is buried next to Susan. He does appear in the St Stephen's registers as being buried in the cemetery.

Susan and Joseph had 8 children.

1. Harriett 1852 to 1858 (died as a child) Harriet is listed as Wilson on her grave and death certificate. She fell into a fire and died from her burns. Harriett is buried in Richmond with her brother Thomas.

2. Margaret Jane 1857 to 1882 (married to her cousin John Wilson, on October 10, 1878 in Richmond).

3. Thomas Henry 1860 to 1861 (died as a child)

4. David James 1862 to 1930 (single) (see newspaper obit here)

5. Ellen Matilda 1865 to 1925 (married to John Wilson - see above) & (married to George Wilson, John's brother )

6. Elizabeth Isabella 1867 to 1937 (married Edward Bownds) 

7. Joseph John 1869 to 1949 (married to Ada Inwood in 1890 at Bathurst) & (married to Ellen Elks in 1919)

John Wilson 1845 to 1921 married Elizabeth Lane

John Wilson was born at Kurrajong, NSW in 1845. He was the first son and second child of Simeon Wilson and Elizabeth Horan. John died in 1921 in Manildra, NSW. You can read this lovely obituary about John here.

John married Elizabeth Lane (daughter of Hannah (Anne) Hawkins and John Lane) in 1869 in Kurrajong. Elizabeth was the grand daughter of convict David Hawkins who owned the 50 acre property ''Timberinga'' next door to the Wilson family. 

Elizabeth died in 1925 in Manildra. Both John and Elizabeth are buried in Cudal.

John and Elizabeth had twelve children.

1. Elizabeth (Betsy)1871 - 1946 married Edward Bennett. They had eight children.

8. Rachel May 1885 - 1954 married Alfred Howarth. They had ten children.

9. Elsie Louisa 1887 - 1930 married Walter Barwick. Walter was a son of William Barwick and Susan Wilson and therefore a distant relative.

10. Isaac Bruce 1890 - 1952 married Lyla Barwick. Lyla was the daughter of William Barwick and Susan Wilson and therefore a distant relative.

11. Eliza Pearl 1892 - 1957 married Jack Hanrahan. They had eight children.

12. Eva Ellen 1897 - 1928 married William Archibald Coomber. They had two children.

Cyrus Wilson 1860 - 1918 married Elsie Wilson

Cyrus Wilson was the son of Timothy Wilson and Elizabeth Riley. He was born in Kurrajong in 1860 and died in Parramatta in 1918. His death notice can be found in this newspaper article.

Cyrus married a distant cousin, Elsie Jane Wilson in 1905 (click here to read about it in the local newspaper). Elsie was the daughter of John Wilson Jnr and Ellen Matilda Hawkins.

They had five children.

John WILSON JNR 1854 to 1899 married Margaret Hawkins and Ellen Hawkins

John Wilson Jnr was the first child of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick. He was born in Kurrajong in 1854 and died there from Typhoid in 1899. John was married twice, first to Margaret Jane Hawkins in 1878. Margaret died in 1882. 

John then married Margaret's sister, Ellen Matilda Hawkins in 1885. As John and Margaret already had two small daughters, Ellen took on the role of both aunt and stepmother. You can read John's obituary in this news article.

John and Margaret had two children.

1. Priscilla May (1880 - 1896). Died as a teenager.

2. Amelia Ann Christina (1882 - 1942). Known locally as Sis Packer. Amelia married Henry Packer at Kurrajong in 1900.

Amelia and Henry had 12 children.

1. Dorothy Linda May (1901 - ?) maried George Albert Horan.

2. Reginald Henry Lawrence (1902 - 1934) married Lily Hibbert.

3. Alphonsus Patrick (1904 - 1962) married Lillian Wade.

4. Horace Russell (1907 - 1910) died as a child.

5. Colin Ernest (1909 - 1910) died as a child.

6. Harold Sidney (1910 - 1965) married Myrtle Jeffery. No children.

7. Muriel Lillian (1913 - 1983) married Reginald Case.

Lawson Wilson 1866 - 1953 married Margaret Mitchell

Lawson Wilson was the seventh child of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick. He was born in Kurrajong in 1866 and died in Windsor in 1953. He married Margaret Mitchell in 1892 and they had eight children. They lived the majority of their married life in Schofields. 

It appears that Lawson and Margaret's union was not approved of by her mother Charlotte as she was under the age of 21. A court case ensued - read this article - but love prevailed.

George Henry Wilson 1871 - 1959 married Ellen Matilda Hawkins

George Henry Wilson was the ninth child of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick. He was born in Kurrajong in 1871 and died at Kurmond in 1959. He married Ellen Matilda Hawkins. They had two children.

1. Daisy Miriam 1901 - ? married G Quatermain

2. Brinsley Bruce Septimus 1903 - 1972 married Beryl Wilson (descendant of Edward Wilson and Emily Jane Hurst)

Harriet HAWKINS 1852 to 1858

Harriet Hawkins was the first child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. She was the granddaughter of Kurrajong convicts Job Wilson and Elizabeth Rogers as well as David Hawkins and Jane Cowling. Harriet was born before Susan and Joseph were married. 

Harriet was born at Kurrajong in 1852 and died from burns as a child in 1858. She is buried at St Peters in Richmond. 

Margaret Jane Hawkins 1857 to 1882 married John Wilson

Margaret Jane Hawkins was the second child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. She was born at Kurrajong in 1857 and died there in 1882. 

Margaret married John Wilson in 1878. They had two daughters. Her younger sister Ellen took care of Margaret's young daughters after her death. John was the son of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick, which meant that he and Margaret were first cousins.

2. Amelia Ann Christina 1882 - 1942 married Henry Packer in 1900. Known across the Hawkesbury as Ciss Packer. They had 12 children. You can read Henry's obituary here.

Thomas Hawkins 1860 to 1861

Thomas Hawkins was the third child and first son of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. He was born in Kurrajong 1860 and died aged 18 months in December 1861. 

Ellen Matilda Hawkins 1865 - 1925 married John Wilson and George Wilson

Ellen Matilda Hawkins was the fifth child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. She was born at Kurrajong in 1865 and died in 1925 at her home in Westmead. She is buried in Rookwood Cemetery as Helen Wilson.  

Ellen was married twice. She married John Wilson (1854 -1899) in 1885.

John had previously been married to her older sister Margaret. When Margaret died young, Ellen married John and reared his and Margaret's two daughters (Priscilla and Amelia) as her own. With John, Elsie had 8 children.

1. Elsie Jane (1885 - ?) married Cyrus Wilson in 1905.

4. Elwin Alfred (1890 - 1966) married Jessie Pearce in 1920. In this newspaper article Elwin had a bit of trouble with his cousin Thomas Wilson.

8. John Darcy (1899 - 1969)

Following John's death in 1899 from Typhoid, Ellen married George Henry Wilson (1871 - 1959). She had two children from this marriage. 

1. Daisy Miriam 1901 - 1976 married George Quartermain in 1923. Charles died in 1947. 

2. Brinsley Bruce Septimus 1903 - 1972 married Beryl Wilson (descendant of Edward Wilson and Emily Jane Hurst) in 1934 at Richmond. 

Elizabeth Isabella Hawkins 1867 -1937 married Edward Bownds

Elizabeth Isabella Hawkins was the sixth child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. She was born in Kurrajong on August 18 in 1867. Elizabeth Isabella is listed as 'Isabella, living aged 37' on her father Joseph Hawkins's death certificate in 1902. 

Isabella is named in this news article from 1889. 

Isabella married Edward Bownds circa 1897 in Wellington, (although there is no record for this) - it is listed on her death certificate. Edward died in 1929.  Isabella died in April 1937 in Coonabarabran aged 69 and an article about her death can be read here. It appears that she and Edward had no children.

Joseph John Hawkins 1869 to 1949 married Ada Inwood and Ellen Elks

Joseph John Hawkins was the seventh child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. He was born in Kurrajong in 1869 and died in 1949. He married firstly to Ada Emily Inwood in 1890 and then Ellen Elks in 1919.

With Ada Inwood, Joseph had six children.

1. Joseph Claude 1902 - 1974 married Priscilla Quecher

2. Reginald John 1904 - 1904

3. Aubrey Harmon 1905 - ? married Doris Miller. They had two children.

4. Gladys Emily 1908 - 1988 married James Ryan.

5. Elizabeth 1911 - 1911

6. Ruby Valerie 1914 - 1932.

With Emily Elks Joseph had eight children.

1. Thelma 1919 - 2010 married Harold Back. They had one child.

2. Vivian Charles 1920 - married Joan Simpson. They had four children.

3. Miriel Hope 1923 - 2012 married Stanley Armstrong. They had three children.

4. Lyle Ernest 1925 married Mavis Fitzsimmons. They had five children.

5. Athol James 1927 married Pauline Cowper. They had two children.

6. Noel John 1929 - 1974 married Betty Irvine. They had two children.

7. Maurice Neville 1932 - 2011 married June Irvine. They had one child.

8. Allan Francis 1937- 2006 married Yvonne Langhan. They had four children. 

Job Willis Hawkins 1872 to 1940 married Hanorah Duggan and Idalia Peck

Job Willis Hawkins was the seventh child of Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins. He was born in Kurrajong in 1872 and died there in 1940. He married firstly to Hanorah Duggan in 1895 and after Hanorah's death in 1928, he married Idalia Dulcie Peck (daughter of Robert and Emily Peck) in 1935. Known as 'Aunty Dulcie', she was the sister of Job's daughter in law, Emily Edith Peck.

Job worked for Colo Shire Council and also carted timber to Richmond including Black Wattle called 'Kurrajong Wool'. Later Job worked for Phillip Charley at Belmont North Richmond where he met his first wife Hanorah. Hanorah was a young widow who left Sydney with her first child, Dora Priscilla.

8. Ellen Yulabah Kathleen 1913 - 1992 married Ernest Bottle in 1930 and Thomas Delaney in 1961. She had three children with Ernest Bottle.

Robert John Silk 1873 to 1945 married Lillian Wilson.

Robert John Silk was the eighth child of Matilda Wilson and Thomas Silk. He was born in Richmond in 1873 and died there in 1945. He married Lillian Maria Wilson in 1897.

They had eight children.

1. Irene Alma 1898 - 1962. Married Osmond Cyril Goddard in 1919. They had nine children.

2. Hilmer Cloydon 1901 - 1958. Married Kathleen Bell in 1927. They had two children.

3. Stanley Wilfred 1904 - ?

4. Eric Stanley 1906 - 1976. Married Dora Hopkins in 1930. They had ten children.

5. Robert Cyril 1908 - 1958. Married Rita Douglass in 1929. They had three children.
