John Wilson 1831 to 1916 married to Catherine Barwick

John Wilson was born to Elizabeth and Job Wilson on August 19, 1831, in Kurrajong. He married his cousin Catherine Barwick (daughter of Charlotte Rogers & John Barwick) on November 30, 1870, in Richmond. 

John died at Kurrajong on April 13, 1916. Catherine was born on May 1, 1835, at North Richmond and died on March 6, 1908.

John and Catherine had 12 children.

1. John 1854 to 1899 (married Margaret Jane Hawkins in 1878. Margaret died in 1882) & (married to Ellen Matilda Hawkins in 1885). Margaret & Ellen were sisters, and also John's cousins as their parents were Susan Wilson and Joseph Hawkins.

Mary TURNER 1820 to 1901 married to James Overton

Mary Turner was the first child of Mary and George Turner. Mary was born on January 24, 1820, in North Richmond. She married James Overton on February 2, 1836, at Richmond. Mary died in December 1901 and is buried at St Philip's Cemetery in North Richmond. 

James Overton was born in 1798 in Herefordshire and died in 1873. He is buried in North Richmond. James was transported to Australia on the Recovery in 1818. He was employed as a labourer by William Fuller at North Richmond, according to the 1828 census.

James and Mary lived at Blaxland's Ridge near Kurrajong.

Mary and James had eight children.

8. Thomas 1861 to 1952 married to Jane McCabe on September 29, 1880, at Richmond).

Ann Turner 1827 to 1840s married to Squire Brooks

Ann Turner was born to Mary and George Turner on April 7, 1827 at North Richmond. She died sometime in the 1840s however, in what place is unknown. 

Ann married Squire Brooks on July 10 1844 at Richmond. Squire Brooks was born in 1794 in Lancashire, England. He was transported to Sydney on the Morely II. In the 1828 census, he was listed as a labourer at North Richmond. 

Squire was granted a ticket of leave around the same time. He died at Richmond on January 23.

Ann and Squire had two children.

1. Mary Ann 1843 to 1848 (died as a child)
2. William 1846 to 1910 (married Rosetta Mitchell in 1882).

George Turner Junior 1830 - 1906 married Sarah Mitchell

George Turner Jnr was the fifth child of Mary Rogers and George Turner.  He was born in North Richmond in 1830 and died in Richmond in 1906. 

 George married Sarah Mitchell in Kurrajong in 1854. They had eleven children.

Harriett Barwick 1831 to 1898 married to William Giddins

Harriett Barwick was born to Charlotte and John Barwick in Kurrajong on August 16, 1831. She died at Kurrajong on September 12, 1861. Harriett married William Giddins at Richmond on March 26, 1849. Harriet and William are buried at St Stephen's Anglican Church Kurrajong.

Harriett and William had 16 children.

Lawson Wilson 1866 - 1953 married Margaret Mitchell

Lawson Wilson was the seventh child of John Wilson and Catherine Barwick. He was born in Kurrajong in 1866 and died in Windsor in 1953. He married Margaret Mitchell in 1892 and they had eight children. They lived the majority of their married life in Schofields. 

It appears that Lawson and Margaret's union was not approved of by her mother Charlotte as she was under the age of 21. A court case ensued - read this article - but love prevailed.

John OVERTON 1838 - 1924

John Overton was the first son of Mary Turner and James Overton. He was born in 1838 in Kurrajong and died in Schofields in 1924. John married Jane Mitchell in 1859 in Richmond.

They had nine children.


1. Susannah 1857 - 1937. Married Daniel Alderton in 1880. They had thirteen children.

2. James 1859 - 1941. Married Elizabeth Merrick in 1887. They had eleven children.

3. Elizabeth 1862 - ?. Married Robert Lindores in 1882. They had eleven children.

4. Alice Jane 1865 - 1922. Married Joseph Hurst in 1884.

5. Sarah Ann 1867 - 1878.

6. William John 1870 - 1947. Married Ellen Griffiths in 1894. They had nine children.

7. Mary Ann 1873 - 1937. Married Henry E Mitchell in 1897. They had four children.

Susannah Overton 1847 to1899 married John Shepherd

Susannah Overton was the second daughter of Mary Turner and James Overton. She was born in Kurrajong in 1847 and died there in 1899. She is buried in North Richmond. Susannah married John Shepherd in 1870. They had 11 children.

2. James 1871 - 1952. Married Agnes Annie Mitchell. They had two children. 

3. John Henry 1873 - 1953. Married Harriett Yates. They had seven children.

4. Henry 1875 -1950. Married Alice London and Elizabeth Arnold. Had six children.

5. Rouland 1878 - 1940. Married Izetta Hulbert (nee Alcorn) They had six children.

6. Edith 1881 - 1930. Married Ernest Robert Mitchell. They had nine children.

James Overton 1842-1878 married Elizabeth Mitchell (nee Lord)

James Overton was the second son of Mary Turner and James Overton. He was born in 1842 in Kurrajong and died in Richmond in 1878. James married Elizabeth Mitchell (nee Lord) in 1875. Elizabeth (1815 - 1879) was the widow of Edward Mitchell. They had at least one child.

1. Elizabeth Ann 1860 - 1942 married John Tierney in 1882 in Richmond. 

William Brooks 1846 to 1910 married Rosetta Mitchell

William Brooks was the second child of Ann Turner and Squire Brooks. He was born in 1846 and died in Windsor in 1910. He married Rosetta Mitchell (daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Mitchell) in 1882 at Windsor.

Unfortunately, William died in a terrible accident in Windsor when he was carting coal. In the days before the accident, he had been buried up to his arm pits while digging a grave at St Matthews Windsor and rescued!! You can read about William here and also, this article here

Rosetta died in 1915 aged 69. You can read her obituary here. Rosetta had previously been married to William Seymour (1863).

Elizabeth Turner 1857 to 1858

Elizabeth Turner was the second child of George Turner junior and his wife Sarah Mitchell. She was born in 1857 and died as a baby in 1858.

William Turner 1859 to 1921 married Sophia Arnold

William Turner was the third child of George Turner Junior and Sarah Mitchell. He was born in 1859 and died in 1921. He married Sophia Arnold in Windsor in 1887. 

Sophia died in 1908 at the age of 42 from blood poisoning after she had a thorn in her hand. She is buried at St Matthews Anglican Church in Windsor.

William and Sophia had seven children. 

1. William J 1889 - 1914 married Emily Hand. Died aged 24 and is buried at St Matthews in Windsor.

Matilda Turner 1867-1869

 Matilda Turner was the sixth child of George Turner and Sarah Mitchell. She was born in 1867 and died in 1869 aged two.

Georgina Turner 1871 to 1947 married James Donohoe

 Georgina Turner was born in 1871 and died at Auburn in 1947. She was the daughter of George Turner and Sarah Mitchell. In 1905 Georgina married James Donohoe.

I cannot find any records of Georgina and James having children. 

George Thomas Turner 1872 to 1951 married Harriett Bottle

George Thomas Turner was the son of George Turner and Sarah Mitchell. He was born in 1872 and died in 1951. He married Harriett Bottle at Richmond in 1897.

George and Harriett had at least one child

Julia Giddins 1875 to 1965 married Frederick Mitchell

Julia Giddins was the sixteenth child of Harriett Barwick and William Giddins. She was born in Kurrajong in 1875 and died in 1965. Julia married Frederick Mitchell in 1895. They had two children.
